you could use anything for a punk or alternative band. i'm not sure what you're asking but...you should be focusing more on the tones of the shells. if playing fast punk rock, i find it's best to use something with a deep bass, high rack toms, a nice low end floor (around 14"), and a piccolo snare works very well for punk. a ddrum Dominion 5-Piece Maple Drum Set would be a good example, they sell for around 1000.00 at musiciansfriend right now. and maybe a Pearl M1330 Maple Piccolo Snare Drum for around 250.00 would sound perfect for your set up. just make sure you've got some good hi hats. those will make you or break you in a punk rock band!
