What's that small weird drum left of the snare professional drummers use?

I'm a drummer, and I have a pretty standard set. I use a hi-hat, snare, 2 rack toms, 1 floor tom, a ride cymbal, a crash cymbal, and either a china cymbal or a a splash cymbal or something, never got that part but that's not the question. I know a lot about drums, I've drummed on weird sets when I'm not using my own, with several toms, cymbals that cover the set, octobans, crash cymbals used as a hi-hat, etc., but I watch live shows of bands I listen to and I always notice a certain drum I've never seen before. Its to the left of the snare, and its clear, and doesn't have a real shell, its like really thin. I think Dave Mathews band and the RX Bandits have used them. I've looked around the internet, can't find anything, so what is this, what's the use, and what is it called?

Answer:

youre thinking of roto-toms. its basically just a skin (drumhead) over a metal frame. but the reason for calling them roto toms is the ability to rotate the rim, and allowing you to change the pitch of the tom. mike portnoy loves to use them and he will rotate them as he plays.
