To get a less heavy sound go for a cymbal the doesn't have "medium" in the name that usually means it's lower and louder than what you'd expect out of a cymbal that size. As for the crash-ride they are a weird deal because they are just really strange and I don't even like Crash rides in general. I think getting yourself a nice 20" ride and using the crash ride as a crash. Also, B8's are cool, but they are definitely on the low end. You should consider looking into the medium to high end cymbals for a type that you like. I really enjoy Zildjian A Customs and K's and would suggest them to any drummer, but the Sabian XS20's are really great moderately priced cymbals.
