if noise isnt an issue, go with acoustic for sure. yeah, electric sets are good, but the ONLY reason i own one is cause i live in an apt. i still have my acoustic set for jamming, which is another reason acoustic is great. also, 800 will go further with acoustic than with electric, in my opinion. the cheap electric sets are right around that range, so the feel and sound is a lot worse than the nicer ones. a rolands td-12 is about 3500, a td-20 can get up to 5000$. these electric sets feel very real and the sounds are amazing! however thats a massive price tag..... you can get a solid drumset for 800 bucks. i would suggest the pearl visions, tama rockstar, or gretsch catalina maple to get started. keep in mind most shell packs dont come with cymbals. make sure you know what hardware comes with the kit and what you will need to buy extra.
